4. Facial Data
This section explains how Wite handles images that may show a person's face. It is the complete explanation of facial data collection, use, disclosure, sharing, and retention for Wite.
4.1 What is collected
Wite does not collect facial geometry, faceprints, face templates, or any other biometric identifier, and it does not run face detection or face recognition. Wite only stores the ordinary photos and videos you choose to capture or import — your profile photo, training clips, and exported reels — which may show your face or the faces of other people.
4.2 How it is used
These photos and videos are used only to provide the features you use: displaying your profile photo, showing clips in your training day and Studio timeline, rendering the reels and log cards you export, and showing your own Explore posts. Wite does not analyze faces in these images and does not use them for advertising, profiling, or identification.
4.3 Sharing and disclosure; where it is stored
Photos and videos you capture or import are saved in Wite's app storage on your iPhone. Wite does not send them to us or to any third party. They leave Wite only when you choose to save a reel to your Photos library or share a reel or log card through the iOS share sheet.
4.4 Retention
Each photo or video is kept until you delete it (for example Remove Photo, Delete Clip, Delete Reel, or deleting a training day) or until you delete your account, at which point all of them are erased. Copies you saved to Photos or shared outside Wite are controlled by you and by the app you shared them to.
4.5 This section is the explanation
Sections 4.1 to 4.4 are Wite's full statement on what facial data is collected, how it is used, whether it is disclosed or shared, where it is stored, and how long it is retained.
5. Speech Recognition and Third-Party Services
- Speech-to-text. When you tap Tap to Speak, Wite uses Apple's Speech Recognition service to transcribe your voice in English (US). To produce the transcript, Apple may process the audio on its servers under Apple's own privacy policy. Wite receives only the resulting text, which is saved in your training notes. Wite does not store the dictation audio.
- No third-party AI. Wite does not send your photos, videos, voiceovers, training records, or profile to any third-party AI or machine-learning service. Reels are rendered with Apple's media frameworks inside the app.
- Apple services. Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store (Section 6). Notification permission is handled by iOS.
6. In-App Purchases (Apple Credits)
Wite offers consumable Apnea Credits through Apple In-App Purchase. A standard reel export uses 1 credit; a 4K export or a multi-set Chronicle export uses 2 credits. New accounts receive 1 welcome credit when they first reach the home screen.
| Pack | Price (USD) | Credits |
|---|---|---|
| Skimfathom | $0.99 | 1 |
| Shoalfathom | $2.99 | 3 |
| Kelpfathom | $4.99 | 6 |
| Shelffathom | $9.99 | 12 |
| Slopefathom | $14.99 | 19 |
| Wallfathom | $19.99 | 26 |
| Trenchfathom | $49.99 | 70 |
| Hadalfathom | $99.99 | 150 |
Payment is handled entirely by Apple. Wite never receives or stores your payment card or Apple Account details. Wite keeps the transaction identifier of each purchase so that credits are added exactly once. Local prices may differ by storefront.
7. Explore, Messages, Reporting, and Blocking
Explore shows training posts from Wite divers, and Messages lets divers write to each other. To keep both safe:
- Content filter. Captions, comments, messages, and profile text are checked against a list of objectionable terms (including common character substitutions) before they can be saved, published, or sent.
- Message requests. A first message to another diver is a request. You can send only one message until that diver replies, and the recipient can report or block the sender at any time.
- Report. You can report a post from its detail page or by long-pressing it in Explore, a comment from the ··· button next to it, and a conversation from the Report button on a message request or the ··· menu in a conversation. Wite creates a ticket ID, copies it to your clipboard, removes the reported item and blocks its author immediately, and offers to open your mail app with a pre-filled report to Witesplit@gmail.com. The report email is sent only if you choose to send it from your mail app.
- Block. Block a diver from a post's long-press menu, a comment's ··· menu, or a conversation. Their posts, comments, and messages stop reaching you right away. You can unblock divers in Settings → Safety & Support → Blocked Divers.
- Hide. Swipe left on a post and tap Hide, or choose Hide Comment from a comment's ··· menu, to remove it from your view.
- Delete. Delete your own posts and comments, or delete a conversation from its ··· menu; the messages you sent in it are erased.
We review reports we receive within 24 hours and remove objectionable content and the users who posted it.
8. Retention
Account, profile, training, community, message, credit, and preference records described in Section 2 are kept until you delete the individual item or delete your account. Unsent note drafts are kept until the set is logged, the draft is cleared, or the account is deleted.
9. Your Choices and Account Deletion
- Edit or remove your profile name, headline, bio, and photo in Profile → Edit Profile.
- Delete individual clips, voiceovers, reels, posts, comments, conversations, and training days from the screens where they appear.
- Log Out in Settings. Logging out ends your session; your data stays available when you tap Quick Login again.
- Delete Account in Settings. After a confirmation that lists what will be removed, Wite permanently erases your account identifier, profile and photo, training days, sets, notes and drafts, clips, voiceovers, exported reels, Explore posts and comments, messages you sent, likes, hides, blocks, reports, Buddy Net, bookmarks, credit balance and history, and preferences. Remaining credits are not refundable. Built-in training samples and Explore content provided with the app are not affected. Reels you already saved to Photos stay in Photos, and Apple keeps its own purchase records.
- Permissions can be changed at any time in the iOS Settings app.
10. Children
Wite is intended for adults aged 18 and older, and the community terms shown at first launch require users to be 18+. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has used Wite, contact us and we will help remove the data.
11. Security
Wite relies on iOS app sandboxing and device protections to keep your records within the app. No method of storage is perfectly secure; please protect your device with a passcode.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when Wite changes. The "Last updated" date above shows the latest version. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
